Rights & Responsibilities
A member Organisation has the right to: 1. Receive as much effort and service from an unpaid worker as a paid one, even on a short-term basis. 2. Expect conscientious acceptance of responsibilities regarding promptness, reliability and good performance. 3. Expect enthusiasm and belief in the work the organisation is doing. 4. Express opinions about poor volunteer effort in a diplomatic way and suggest a change to another job. 5. Make a decision regarding where the volunteer would best be suited. 6. Expect from the volunteer clear and open communication at all times. 7. Expect loyalty to the agency and constructive criticism where necessary. 8. Release a volunteer who is considered undesirable.
Organisation Responsibilities:
1. Plan the volunteer programme before recruiting volunteers. 2. Recruit, interview and select the right volunteer for the right job. 3. Provide written job descriptions and procedures for volunteer jobs. 4. Orientate volunteers by providing information about the organisations purpose, structure, programmes, policies and procedures. 5. Provide initial training and ongoing training where necessary. 6. Include volunteers in decision making where decisions affect volunteer's work. 7. Keep records of volunteer's goals, training and feedback support sessions. 8. Communicate clear expectations ad provide the appropriate support and supervision for volunteers. 9. Formally and informally recognise volunteer's efforts in the organisation. 10. Continually evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of volunteers in the organisation. |
